Montepulciano

The red wine from Abruzzo that has conquered the world.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is the most produced DOC wine in Italy, along with Chianti. Unlike Chianti, which is a blend, Montepulciano wine is exclusively produced “in purity” with the grape of the same name.

The first records of this variety date back to the 16th century when it was cultivated in the Sulmona basin, located at the foot of the Maiella mountain. It later spread to the coastal areas, where it found the ideal growing conditions first in the Teramo hills, and later in the hills of Pescara and the province of Chieti.

Montepulciano grape is therefore born as a “mountain” vine and has preserved over the centuries its organoleptic characteristics that distinguish the wine made from it: aromas of the forest and red fruits, a lively red color tending towards garnet, and a pronounced acidity that makes it particularly suitable for aging.

When consumed young, it is perfect for grilled meats and hearty local pasta dishes. If aged, it can be an excellent accompaniment to game meat and wild boar.

Montepulciano Riserva, which by regulation must age for three years, including at least a portion in barrels, can also be a great wine for contemplation or meditation.
